Rules

The International Competition for Young Performers in Val de Travers is open to pianists and flutists of any nationality, born after the 1st of July 1991. The competition will be held from 6 to 12 July 2018 at Chapelle de Couvet, in Val de Travers, Switzerland.

The deadline for submitting all application materials is 3rd May 2018. No applications will be accepted after this date.

15th May selected candidates will receive invitation by mail.

Applicants will be admitted to participate in the competition only after the application fee is paid. Any application bank charges or commissions are payable by the applicant. The participant’s full name should be indicated in the payment reference. The application fee is non-refundable.

The competition organizers reserve the rights to all audio and video recordings, photos, Internet publications and broadcasts of the performances and concerts during the competition.

Winners will participate in the Final Concert and any other events arranged by the competition organizers.

All rounds of the competition, as well as the Opening Concert and the Final Concert will be open to the public.

All works must be performed from memory for piano section.

The jury’s decision will be final and not subject to appeal.

The jury reserves the right to stop the participant during the performance, if the performance exceeds the specified time limit or if the jury feels it is ready to make its decision without hearing the rest.

By registering to participate in the competition, the applicant accepts the competition rules.

Participants in the PIANO SECTION and FLUTE SECTION of the competition will be divided into three age categories:

Category A: Participants from 5 to 11 years old

Application fee: 70 Swiss francs

Category B: Participants from 12 to 15 years old

Application fee: 100 Swiss francs

Category C: Participants from 16 to 25 years old

Application fee: 120 Swiss francs

Prizes

Category A

  • 1st prize : 500 francs
  • 2nd prize : 300 francs
  • 3rd prize : 200 francs

Category B

  • 1st prize : 1000 francs
  • 2nd prize : 700 francs
  • 3rd prize : 300 francs

Category C

  • 1st prize : 3000 francs and a paid concert the following year
  • 2nd prize : 1500 francs
  • 3rd prize : 500 francs

Competitors of Category C will have the additional opportunity to compete for the special Prize of 1000 francs, if they include creation of composer Jean-Philippe Bauermeister in their program of the second round.
A special Prize "Virtuose Suisse" of 1,000 francs will be awarded to the best swiss student.
